Other Choral Music

  • A new heart, a new spirit, commissioned by Truro Cathedral and first performed 18 June 2011.  The work is scored for treble choir, 3 SATB choirs and organ.  For more information and to hire scores and parts contact the Faber Music hire library.
  • A song of hope, commissioned by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and first performed on 27 January 2010.  It is scored for upper voices, piano and strings.  For more information and to hire scores and parts contact the Faber Music hire library.
  • As Angels in some brighter dreams, for the Shrewsbury Chorale (NJ,USA), in fond memory of Brian Aschinger, a great friend and champion of Howard’s work in the USA, who died on 18 July 2001.
  • Ecce Mater Tua, for the Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral of St John, s’Hertogenbosch, Holland (first performance 6 November 2005).
  • Festival Jubilate Deo, for the choir of St David’s Cathedral Wales, published by Faber.
  • I am hope and Love will find out the way (community songs) are both available (SAB & piano) from The Royal School of Church Music, as part of RSCM’s Songs For Life Volume 2 (ISBN 0-85402-106-X). I am hope is also available separately.   • I am not I, written for The Putney 1885 Singers
  • I believe in the sun, a song for young voices, commissioned by the BBC and first performed & broadcast live at Britain’s inaugural National Holocaust Day, 27 January, 2001. It is a setting of an anonymous text found written (originally in French) on the wall of a cave in Cologne where Jews had been hiding.
  • Just a Tale (SAB & piano) is a beautiful Christmas song for young people, with words by Stephen Clark, available in the Faber Carol Book (ISBN 0-571-52007-3). A recording of this work can be found on the CD Christmas with Cantamus, available from their website.
  • Of the dark past, for the Choir of King’s School Canterbury (first performance 14 December 2005 in Canterbury Cathedral), in memory of Lucy Holland
  • O Lord God of Time and Eternity, for the Service of Remembrance for Iraq at St Paul’s Cathedral London, 10 October 2003.
  • Pelican in the Wilderness, a setting of Psalm 102. Originally written for the Enchanted Voices CD of the same name, this work has been re-scored for choir, string quartet and keyboard. The first performance in this new arrangement was on 9 November 2012 by the Birmingham University Choir.  Available to buy.
  • Romance of the Angels (‘Romance que cantó la novena orden’) commissioned by The BBC Singers for their CD released in November 2000, Illuminare – Carols for a New Millennium. Text by Fray Iñigo de Mendoza (1425-1507)
  • Romance of the Epiphany (‘Romance Día de la Epifanía’) composed for the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford, for their CD released Nov 2000, Remember Bethlehem: Carols for a New Millennium, first live performance at St John’s Smith Square, December 2000. Text by José de Valdivielso (1565-1638)
  • Salisbury Canticles (FOR UPPER VOICES & ORGAN). Salisbury Cathedral Girl Choristers recorded Howard’s Salisbury Canticles and his Psalm 23 (Vicar of Dibley) setting on a CD entitled ‘ANGELS’ SONG’. It is available on the Griffin label (GCCD4020 CD). The choir director is Simon Lole.
  • Spared, based on Wendy Cope’s poem about 9/11, for the Methodist College Belfast Chapel Choir – première 27 October 2005 in St Anne’s Cathedral Belfast.
  • Suscipe, commissioned by St Aloysius’ College and first performed in Glasgow in November 2009.  The work is scored for junior voices, SATB choir, 2 pianos and percussion. For more information and to hire scores and parts contact the Faber Music hire library.
  • The Dawn, the fire, the rainbow and the day, for Kingsland Youth Choir, first performed at Ocean Arts Centre Hackney. Commissioned by The Voices Foundation
  • They Were Not Here was commissioned by The Voices Foundation and first performed in April 1995 at St Johns Smith Square in London. Parts can be hired through Faber Music.
  • Thou walkest with me, a setting of Psalm 139 originally on the Pelican in the Wilderness CD, the work is scored for solo soprano, SA voices, string quartet and keyboard.  The first live performance will be on 9 November 2012 by the Birmingham University Choir.  See here for details of this performance.  Available to buy.
  • To See Another Sun, for St Mary’s Barnes.  First performance September 2003. For SATB, organ & band.
  • Verbum caro factum est, originally written for Enchanted Carols in 2009 this work has been re-scored for choir, percussion, piano and string quartet.  The first performance in this new arrangement was on 9 November 2012 by the Birmingham University Choir.  Available to buy.
  • We Are God’s Labourers, for the Installation of the new Dean of Christ Church, Oxford.  First performed on 4 October 2003. For SATB, solo tenor, organ, piano, harp, violin & cello.
  • Wide World, commissioned by Sing Up and The Sage Gateshead for ‘VoiceOver: Through Time and Space’.  First performed on 23 June 2009.  It is scored for voices and chamber orchestra.  For more information and to hire scores and parts contact the Faber Music hire library.
