More tomorrows
Howard was commissioned by Classic fm (as Composer-in-Residence) to create this special piece of music for Cancer Research: UK. His inspiration for it derived from meeting cancer survivors, research scientists, doctors, volunteers and supporters of the charity. Three short films were made of his journey to compose the ‘anthem for orchestra’ which received its première in the Royal Albert Hall on April 24th 2013. Howard wrote in the programme for the concert, “This has been a remarkable and eye-opening commission for me to undertake. Meeting with CR:UK’s research scientists, with survivors, volunteers, supporters and carers, above all I have been struck by the incredible spirit of resilience, determination and strength of purpose they share. I hope my new ‘anthem’ for orchestra, More Tomorrows, captures that tremendous, courageous, defiant spirit.”
